Bhopal । Ending speculation, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath announced that former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh will contest from the Bhopal constituency on the Congress ticket.
“The central election campaign committee of the party has decided that Digvijaya Singh will contest from Bhopal. He was given the option to contest from Indore, Jabalpur or Bhopal. Later, it was decided that he will be the Congress candidate from Bhopal,” Kamal Nath told reporters on the sidelines of an event here.
Bhopal is believed to be BJP’s stronghold as no other party could win on this seat since 1989. Incumbent MP Alok Sanjar won this seat in 2014 by margin of nearly 4 Lac Votes.
Although this time BJP has infighting for this seat and party could not declare any candidate so far. After Congress has declared Digvijay Singh’s name BJP may field any heavy weight candidate from the capital.
